Beach-side outdoor units need extra care
Manasota Key sits between the Gulf and Lemon Bay, so salt reaches outdoor units from both sides. A few habits help:
- Rinse the outdoor coil with a garden hose (gentle spray, power off) every few months.
- Keep plants and fencing at least 2 feet from the unit so it can breathe.
- Watch for white crust or flaking fins, an early sign of corrosion. On the Key it tends to catch up with units before or around 10 years old.

Inland Englewood and Rotonda West
Away from the water, Englewood looks more like the rest of the region: single-family homes on quiet streets, many of them owned by retirees. The median age here is 66.9. Rotonda West, the deed-restricted planned community nearby, was developed by Cavanagh Communities after it bought the land in 1969.
